National Cadet Corps

 

National Cadet Corps was established under NCC act 1948. It is running under the Ministry of Defence to meet the following aims and objectives.

  • To develop qualities, character, courage comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure, sportsmanship and the ideal of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens.
  • To create , a human resource organized, trained and motivated youths, to provide leadership in all walks of his life, including in armed forces and always to available to services of the Nation.

Enrolment and Different Wings of NCC

Training of NCC at College/University level is divided into two divisions senior division boys and senior wing girls divisions. Army wing, Air wing, Naval wing of NCC are available for regular college students of the state. Girls can also opt for these all wings. Fresh regular students having 15-23 age with physically and mentally fitness are eligible for joining NCC. Students can join NCC only if NCC coverage as per the vacancy/unit availability to their institution. All the NCC units enrolled fresh students of PART-I course in the month of July on the basis of physical and mental aptitude test.

Training, Syllabus and Certificate Exams in NCC

NCC provides three year training for “C” certificate exams and two year for “B” certificate exams. Every cadet who completes 75% weekly parades out of 120 with two camps is eligible for “C” certificate exams and 75% attendance with one camp for “B” certificate exams. Drill , Arms drill, Weapon training, Warfare tactics, Field craft, NCC organizations, Leadership, Personality development and Environment and ecology, Hygiene and sanitation, Civil defence, Disaster management, Social services , Introduction to historical, geographical and religious background of India , Adventure training and other practical training similar to different NCC wings are covered in their syllabus. Trained army instructors, officers and NCC officers cover the syllabus. Free SSB guidance is also provided to interested and deserving cadets.

Camps in NCC

Except regular syllabus training various local National and International camps are also organized for the cadets throughout the year.

Annual training camp,Army , Air force,Ship attachment camps,Thal Sainik, Vayu sainik and Nausainik camp, Republic Day camp, National Integration and Special National Integration camp, Basic and advance leadership camps,Tracking , Mountaineering, Snow and Water skiing, Para jumping ,Youth Exchange Programme are some of the important camps of NCC organized for intensive training camps for cadets.

Facilities and incentives for Cadets

NCC provides uniform, washing allowance , refreshments during parade, T.A., D.A. for attending camp, free messing and boarding during camps, for cadets. Except these NCC and other organization like Sahara provides scholarships to NCC cadets.

Importance of the Certificates

There is a special entry schemes for “C” certificate passed NCC cadets in defence forces to join as a Commissioned Officer. Special reservation for “C” certificate NCC cadets in all the courses of Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Indian Air Force Academy, Officers Training Academy is also given.

Special weightage and reservation is provided to all NCC “C” and “B” certificate passed cadets in armed forces, central paramilitary forces and all the states police forces. Weightage and reservation in admission to Universities and Colleges is also given to the NCC cadets. In this way NCC grooms the youths to become future leaders of the Nation. Other important Corporate houses like Reliance, Sahara, Vedanta have special entry schemes for NCC certificate Graduates
