Microbiology has received a great deal of attention in recent years by virtue of its application in medicine, agriculture, industry, biotechnology and molecular biology. This has created enthusiasm among the present generation of students who visualize bright prospects for opportunities in employment and research. Microbiology for B.Sc Degree was started in the year 2001.

Department hosts 02 full time faculty members, among them One is Ph.D graduate with research expertise in the diverse fields of Microbiology. One is recognized Ph.D guide of Tumkur University. 03 doctoral students are pursuing their Ph.D degrees at present.
The thrust areas of research are enzymology, protein chemistry, anticancer studies, energy generation and bioremediation.
The research output of the department is with total publications of 16 from last few years. The total research projects are 2 minor projects completed (worth 4 lakhs Rupees grants) and one is sanctioned (worth 5 lakhs Rupees grants) which are funded by University Grants Commission (UGC) and Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST).
The department consistently organizes conferences, lectures and workshops pertaining to evolving fields in Microbiology and its allied fields.
